After the founding of the New Israelite Temple Association in Hamburg in 1817, the Reform community first held services at rented premises. The New Israelite Temple was only inaugurated in 1844 in the Poolstrasse in Hamburg. The lithograph shows the interior of the temple on the evening preceding its inauguration on 5 September 1844.
