Use of EGO | European History Online

EGO collects and uses data in log files which the user’s internet service provider transmits to EGO. These are: browser type / version, operating system used, referrer URL (the previously visited site), host name of the accessing computer (IP address), time of the server inquiry. These data cannot be attributed to any specific person by EGO. They are needed in order to show the user the content of the EGO online offerings. This data will not be combined with any other sources of data; moreover, this data will be deleted after an anonymous statistical evaluation. 

Use of Cookies

In connection with the provision of internet offerings, EGO uses cookies. Cookies are small text files which are deposited temporarily on a visitor’s computer when a visitor accesses a website. Cookies are used once or for a longer period of time, in order to enable visitors to use certain functions of the EGO online offerings. These text files do not contain any personal data and will not be combined by EGO with any other sources of data.

Data Privacy Notice concerning the Use of Facebook / Google+ / Twitter Social Plugins

EGO uses social plugins ("plugins") from the social networks facebook.com ("Facebook"), plus.google.com ("Google+") and twitter.com ("Twitter“).

These plugins are labeled with the Facebook icon, the Google+ icon or the Twitter icon, respectively.

Facebook

If you visit a site in EGO which has such a plugin, your browser will create a direct link to the Facebook servers. The content of the plugins will be transmitted from Facebook directly to your browser and integrated into the website by your browser. By integrating the plugin, Facebook will receive the information that you have visited the corresponding sites in EGO. If you are logged in at Facebook, Facebook can attribute your visit to your Facebook account.

If you do not wish to allow Facebook to gather data about you through EGO, you will have to log out of Facebook prior to visiting our website.

If you interact with the plugins, for example, if you activate the "Like" button or enter a comment, the corresponding information will be transmitted directly from your browser to Facebook / Google+ / Twitter and saved there.
